Materials for washable diapers

Today, there are a multitude of materials used to make washable diapers. We offer you a summary of the most commonly used materials in currently manufactured washable diapers.

HEMP

It's one of the most absorbent and durable fabrics in the world!

Hemp is cultivated without fertilizers or pesticides, making it organic without requiring certification. It's one of the most absorbent fabrics in the world and certainly the strongest natural fabric!

  • Hemp micro-terry: 47% HEMP / 38% ORGANIC COTTON / 15% POLYESTER

BAMBOO

It's one of the most absorbent materials!

Antibacterial thanks to a unique agent, which remains effective after several washes.

Highly eco-friendly, bamboo is an extremely soft and absorbent fabric. It has antibacterial properties and does not give off unpleasant odors. Bamboo cultivation has no harmful effects on the environment, and the manufacturing process meets strict environmental standards.

  • Bamboo micro-sponge: 80% BAMBOO VISCOSE / 20% POLYESTER
  • Bamboo fleece: 70% bamboo viscose made from Oeko-Tex certified bamboo fiber; 30% organic cotton

ZORB ®

Zorb is a new fabric used for cloth diapers, a blend of natural and synthetic fibers (bamboo or hemp and microfiber). It is hypoallergenic and non-toxic. Ultra-absorbent, it can absorb up to 10 times its weight! 20 times faster than cotton, bamboo, or hemp. It is made in Canada in a clean environment, with environmentally friendly facilities and working conditions.

  • 70% polyester 30% polyamide

TENCEL®

  • Natural and eco-friendly fiber: Tencel is produced from eucalyptus pulp. These trees grow in sustainably managed forests, the plantations are FSC certified, and the fiber carries the PEFC label. Eucalyptus is a fast-growing plant with excellent quality fiber. Therefore, Tencel is easily renewable. It is also biodegradable.
  • Environmentally friendly manufacturing: no use of chemicals, formaldehyde, or toxic solvents. The non-toxic solvent used is recovered and recycled in a closed loop during the spinning process, thus saving water and energy.
  • Guarantees: Tencel has obtained Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification and the European Ecolabel.

Its characteristics:

Comfortable and silky-soft, Tencel remains supple wash after wash. It absorbs 50% more moisture than cotton and wicks it away from the skin. This keeps baby's bottom cooler and drier for greater comfort. Hygienic, Tencel has thermoregulating properties and limits bacterial growth. Tencel is ideal for even the most sensitive skin. 30% stronger than cotton and polyester, Tencel is durable!

  • Tencel micro-sponge: 80% Tencel / 20% Polyester

ORGANIC COTTON

Cotton is a natural fiber of plant origin, extracted from the fruit of cotton plants. It has been used for millennia, as it was already used by the ancient Egyptians nearly 12,000 years ago.

Regarding its use in washable diapers, the characteristics of cotton are as follows:

  • very resistant to repeated washing and drying
  • Absorption rate: medium
  • absorption: medium
  • Organic cotton fleece: 100% organically grown cotton (Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified product).
  • Organic cotton micro-terry: 100% organic cotton (Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified product)

In conclusion:

We recommend bamboo for cloth diapers, followed by Zorb® (a less common and more delicate material to use) in the diaper filling. For inserts, we prefer bamboo and Tencel, which are very soft and highly absorbent.
